Another year, another successful UCISA event.

But this one was particularly special, because we had James Davies, Director of IT Services at the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), speaking on behalf of Q.

James’ talk was mainly focussed on his team’s fresh approach at IT innovation at UCA, as well as their experience of partnering and working with us. “For me, a partnership is all about trust. We trust them, and they trust us, which puts us in a very powerful position going forward.” Said James, then going on to explain how taking a non-traditional, creative approach to infrastructure transformation took them from a legacy Hyper-V house to a modernised, HCI vSAN hybrid cloud environment, enhancing service continuity and improving their users’ digital experience.

He then went on to explain how UCA utilised our active support service. “We said to Q that we wanted change, and that we needed them to support us over the next couple of years while our teams get trained up and more familiar with the new system.” Said James. “That was a deciding factor for me. And if we couldn’t get that guarantee, if Q couldn’t provide that service, that was a deal breaker, we couldn’t do it – the risk to the university was too high. Thankfully, they were able to provide the services and help us.”

The event

Now in its fourth year, UCISA IG looks to help those in the higher education (HE) sector to not only better understand the technical challenges within the industry, but also to make unique insights, professional solutions and innovative ideas available to, to help higher education establishments overcome any obstacles that may be thrown their way.

This year focussed on infrastructure’s three key components: the tin, the cloud, and the people.

With a programme packed full of insightful and thought-provoking presentations from sector colleagues and experts, as well as business showcases and interactive sessions, the event was a complete success. We had a great time on Stand 5, talking though digital transformation with everyone who stopped by, and particularly enjoyed the peer networking sessions. Big thumbs up from the Q team.
