Flexpod: How bright is the future of converged infrastructure?
September 3, 2018
An alliance between Cisco & NetApp, FlexPod is a converged infrastructure platform, developed as a tool to simplify IT operations. It’s essentially an optimised data centre solution that hosts infrastructure, management software and business applications in a virtualised environment and allows multiple vendors’ components to work alongside one another. Built with compute, network and storage, all within a single system, FlexPod is famous for its efficiency, agility and flexibility, together with a huge range of validated architectures to support major applications and software platforms.
But, with more compact, recently released Hyper-Converged Infrastructure (HCI) systems now available, it begs the question, does converged infrastructure still lead the industry for data centre workload delivery?
The short answer, is yes.
We’ve been building FlexPods for customers for years now, and they’re still enjoying the many benefits that converged infrastructure has to offer. Flexpod remains ideal for addressing many of the pressing challenges facing companies, including cost containment and delivering service levels for virtualised business critical applications. It also allows IT departments to focus primarily on IT innovation, rather than simply maintaining daily operations, as organisations need to respond rapidly to new and changing IT requirements.
Over time, working closely with both Cisco and NetApp, we’ve gained a deep understanding of FlexPod, as well as knowing which businesses are going to benefit from its deployment. It all depends on what sort of IT operation you’re running, and, over the years, we’ve realised that one size certainly does not fit all. What works for some may not work for others.
Despite leading the industry for over a decade, Flexpod continues to evolve and is as relevant today as it ever was.
