Data Replication

In many organisations, the loss of data is critical; particularly the data used in high-value, high frequency transactions. Replication plays a dual role in ensuring data protection and business continuity: it eliminates data loss by replicating data as it is being created or changed, and then makes a 'mirrored' copy of data at a remote site. If the primary store is lost or corrupted, data can quickly be recovered and restored to a point immediately before any interruption.

Data replication can also be used for the transfer of data from remote offices to a central repository in the company's data centre. While there may or may not be tape backup at each office, the availability of current data in one central location is an obvious disaster recovery (as well as daily operational) advantage.
